Love Yourself First

Today is Thursday.  Thursdays have a special place in my heart.  Why?  Because I began my fitness journey on a Thursday.  I was feeling sorry for myself and having a pitty party, when I decided that I needed to start taking better care of myself and I needed to start loving myself.

This past Tuesday, I came back to that place of having a pitty party for myself.  I was laying around with cramps and a headache just wishing that I was living someone else’s life.  But, luckily, today it doesn’t take me long to get over those moments of weakness.  Those moments come farther and farther apart and I can bounce back from them much easier.

When it comes to loving yourself, I believe that there is no formula or quote that will save you.  It comes from within.  It comes from a small place that you find inside you that has hope for more.  Hope is a beautiful and life saving thing.  The trick is to find that one small piece of it.  Some people believe that it is found from some kind of external motivation.  Maybe.  But I believe it comes from a place of love.  A place of love for yourself.  When you feel so low and you are just needing more love, you sometimes just have to create it yourself.

I am not even sure that made total sense to anyone but me.  Nonetheless what I am trying to share with you is that it’s there.  that tiny ball of self love and hope is there and it’s waiting for you to find it and to roll with it.  Finding it, can begin a few different ways.  Here are a few that I have tried:

  1.  Gratitude-  Sometimes when it feels like the world is against you, finding something that you are always grateful for makes the world of difference.
  2. Date yo-self!-  Sounds silly, but I actually do this. Sometimes I will take myself out to a movie, or cook a nice dinner for myself.  You may think it’s sad, but I had a hot date tonight where I got to eat what I want, be in the clothes I want, watch the Netflix show I wanted AND eat dessert without sharing. Did you?  But seriously, you deserve to be treated right.  So treat yourself right!
  3. Find good people-  tougher than it sounds.  But sometimes this starts with ditching the people who are toxic and hurtful in your life.  This may mean a social media swipe, or a few difficult conversations, but you need to let go of the negativity in your life so that you can foster and grow into the person you deserve to be.
  4. Build your tribe- this ties in with the above tip, but this is more specific.  This tip is about really becoming a part of a community that you feel supported in and that helps you grow that tiny ball of self love and hope!  Or if you are having trouble finding a tribe, you can create one.. like I did!

I’ve been working for a few years now on creating love for myself.  I’m going to tell you right now, it’s harder then it sounds.  But I promise you that somewhere deep inside you, there is a tiny ball of self love and hope.  And that tiny ball of self love and hope is just enough to snowball into something legendary ❤

I am never giving up on making my tiny ball of self love and hope into something much bigger than that!  Every day it gets a little bigger and I am able to share that love that I have within with other people.  And I am SO grateful for this!

Finding Strength in a Shit Storm

How do you find strength when your life seems to seriously unfair?  When you feel like only bad things happen to you.  When you feel like you have no one on your team.  When the people around you don’t understand?  Well let me begin with a little story…

Seven years.

Thats how long it’s been since I was sexually assaulted.  Anniversary’s are hard.  I always thought that when the seven year anniversary came around that I would “be over it”.  But the truth is, I will never be over it.  And it never gets easier.  But I do get stronger.

Sometimes, I think about where I would be if that wouldn’t have happened.  And my mind goes totally blank.  It’s amazing how one event can change your entire life.  How it can change your entire perspective on how life goes and how many different directions you take because of it.  I have struggled to understand what happened to me, and I have struggled to find peace.  It all came in stages.  There was the denial, the guilt, the anger, the guilt, the confusion, the sadness, the guilt, the grievance, the epiphany, the forgiveness and now the strength.  And when I say strength, I don’t mean that I am over it and completely fighting through it.  But it does mean that I have found the strength to fight a little harder than I did yesterday in keeping it together.

What has helped me the most recently?

Creating the support I need– I have began creating a community of people who lift each other up.  One thing I have struggled with being away from my Live Different family, is having the support I need.  So I created a business called Lift and Love where we can come together as a group to support each other in whatever it is we need.

Physical health–  When you are sexually assaulted, sometimes it feels like you have no control over your emotions (even 7 years after the fact).  And that is okay.  But one thing I have been holding onto, is what I can control.  And I am lucky enough to be able to control my physical health.  I have the power to exercise, and eat healthy and take care of my body. So when I feel I can’t control anything else, I take control of my physical health.

Personal Development– Have you ever heard of the “self-help” section at the bookstore?  Well that is where I shop!  There is a negative connotation to self help books, but I think you should be helping yourself daily!  Books, podcasts, meditation, gratitude journals and anything else that makes you grow daily should be a part of your routine!

I find some bit of strength in every single day.

Shaun Week BABY!!

I have completed a Shaun T program.  Let me say it again in case you didn’t hear… I HAVE COMPLETED A SHAUN T PROGRAM!!!  I never thought I would be able to say that out loud.  Yes, it was only a one week program, but it was freaking hard and I wanted to quit a million times!

But I didn’t! I didn’t give up and I am so proud of that!!

I have always looked at Shaun T programs as way out of my league, and as something that was a goal for me to get to.  I never thought I could just jump into a program like this and actually successfully complete it!!

I have spent a month combining everything that I have learned about personal development, accountability, healthy eating and fitness and I have come out feeling absolutely so phenomenal because of it!!

It feels like a milestone. It feels like I have accomplished something bigger than I have dreamed of before.  I wished I could share this feeling with all of you.  This feeling of being on a journey that makes your heart smile and your eyes smile at the same time.  The feeling of fulfillment and happiness.  I haven’t completed my journey.  It’s something I will be on for the rest of my life.  But yet I feel like there is no way that I could be happier than I am right now.  And then the next day I am proven wrong.  The feeling is crazy.

I just want to share this feeling with everyone!  Why bother keeping it to myself!  So that is why I am doing my best to help you feel as phenomenal as I do right now!

TEAM LIFT AND LOVE means so much to me. I have been working tirelessly to create a brand that is authentic to me. The “LIFT” part means a few things. First on this team is we LIFT each other up. We lift our spirits, we lift our confidence, we lift ourselves out of bed, we lift our lives up and of course, we also lift weights! The “LOVE” part is very important to me. Love is at the core of everything that I do. On this team, we first and foremost LOVE OURSELVES. Then we have the power to love others and spread love to those we know. We love our bodies and all it’s imperfections, and we love the journey that we are on. We love our failures and we love our successes. With love, anything is possible.
